Present straight from the dashboard

This is the one Tollgate is built for. You walk into a steering committee, put Tollgate on the projector, and run the whole meeting from the live dashboard. No PowerPoint, no status pack assembled the night before. The case file you’ve kept current through the week is the briefing. This tutorial gives you a dry run so your first real meeting feels routine.

Use the project you chartered in Your first investment. Open its Tollgate tab, land on Investment Health, and pretend you have a room in front of you.

  1. Share your screen or connect to the projector.
  2. Open the Tollgate tab, stay on Investment Health, and choose Run steering.
  3. Read the room in from the top of the full-screen steering view.

Start at Investment status: your verdict, trend, confidence and key message — what we funded this for and where it stands. Then Delivery status shows the derived read: Scope, Cost and Schedule, each RAG-coloured (red/amber/green).

That top-to-bottom read is your opening. You’ve stated the thesis and the status in under a minute, in the sponsor’s language, off live data.

The Needs a decision table is your agenda for the meeting — pending changes and governance acts that need a call.

  1. Walk the committee through each item.
  2. Where the room reaches a decision, record it there and then, with Approve or Return with notes.

Decisions made in the room land in the registers immediately, so the audit trail exists before the meeting ends (see Record a decision). When you’re done, choose End meeting & write minutes — or Leave presentation to step out without ending it.

3. Handle a follow-up without leaving the room

Section titled “3. Handle a follow-up without leaving the room”

The moment that used to kill the conversation — “I’ll have to come back to you on that” — is the moment Tollgate exists for.

  1. When a committee member asks a follow-up, choose Leave presentation.
  2. Jump to the relevant register card: Risks & opportunities, Changes or Decisions.
  3. For a broader question, use Ask Tollgate, the button on the Tollgate tab.

Each register is one click away, and you don’t lose your place. Ask Tollgate answers from current data, in plain language, in the room. Try “which of our risks is oldest?” or “what did we decide about that change in Q2?”

If you’re chairing across a set of investments rather than one, do the same thing one level up:

  1. Open Apps → Tollgate Portfolio.
  2. Present from the KPI tiles: Portfolio budget, Outcome confidence, Health, Change requests, Materialised risks, Decisions.
  3. Walk the decision lanes, then the investments table, grouped by theme.
  4. Drill into a single project’s Investment Health when the room wants detail.

See Read the Tollgate Portfolio for the portfolio surface in full.

You ran a steering committee off a live surface and kept context through every follow-up. You left the room with the decisions already logged. No deck existed, and nobody missed one.
