Present straight from the dashboard
This is the one Tollgate is built for. You walk into a steering committee, put Tollgate on the projector, and run the whole meeting from the live dashboard — no PowerPoint, no status pack assembled the night before. The case file you’ve kept current through the week is the briefing. This tutorial gives you a dry run so your first real meeting feels routine.
Use the project you chartered in Your first investment. Open its Tollgate tab, land on Investment Health, and pretend the room is watching.
1. Open on Investment Health
Section titled “1. Open on Investment Health”- Share your screen or connect to the projector.
- Open the Tollgate tab and stay on Investment Health.
- Read the room in from the top: the business case reminder (what we funded this for), then the five RAG cards (where we stand), then confidence (where we think it’s heading).
That top-to-bottom read is your opening. You’ve stated the thesis and the status in under a minute, in the sponsor’s language, off live data.
2. Run the agenda from Decisions Needed
Section titled “2. Run the agenda from Decisions Needed”The Decisions Needed block is your agenda for the meeting — pending changes and materialised risks that need a call.
- Walk the committee through each item.
- Where the room reaches a decision, record it there and then (see Record a decision) so the audit trail exists before the meeting ends.
3. Handle a follow-up without leaving the room
Section titled “3. Handle a follow-up without leaving the room”The moment that used to kill the conversation — “I’ll have to come back to you on that” — is the moment Tollgate is designed for.
- When a committee member asks a follow-up, jump to the relevant register: Risks, Changes or the Decision Log. Each is one click; you don’t lose your place.
- For a broader question — “which of our risks is oldest?”, “what did we decide about that change in Q2?” — use Ask Tollgate, the button on the Health tab. It answers from current data, in plain language, in the room.
4. Present across a portfolio
Section titled “4. Present across a portfolio”If you’re chairing across several investments rather than one, do the same thing one level up:
- Open Apps → Tollgate Portfolio.
- Present from the theme swimlanes — RAG distribution, overdue investments, total portfolio spend — and drill into any single project’s Investment Health when the room wants detail.
See Read the Tollgate Portfolio ledger for the portfolio surface in full.
What you’ve done
Section titled “What you’ve done”You’ve run a steering committee off a live surface, kept context through every follow-up, and left the room with the decisions already logged. No deck existed, and none was missed.
What’s next
Section titled “What’s next”- The dashboard is the deck — the thinking behind presenting live from the surface you maintain.
- Generate a since-last-steerco digest — for the mid-month sniff-check between meetings.
- For people who weren’t in the room, Export the governance record.
