Link a work package to a Jira issue
Linking a work package to the Jira issue that delivers it keeps investment-level drift traceable to delivery. The link is thin by design: one or a few epics per work package.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- You need edit rights on the project.
- Link only the delivery epics that build the work package. Linking every child ticket drags governance below the line.
Link an issue
Section titled “Link an issue”- Open Work Packages and choose Edit on the work package’s row.
- Find the Linked Jira work items field.
- The picker opens on your project’s recently updated issues, so you can pick one straight away.
- To narrow the list, type in the search box (Search for work items…). Matches appear as you type.
- Select an issue. It becomes a removable chip. Add more if the work package spans a few epics.
- Choose Save.
To unlink, remove the chip and save again.
Write-back to the Jira issue
Section titled “Write-back to the Jira issue”Tollgate can maintain a custom Work Package field on the Jira project so delivery teams see the governance linkage from inside the issue. This write-back is opt-in and off by default, and current builds ship no switch for it in the app’s settings. Until it is enabled, linking stays inside Tollgate and writes nothing back to Jira. Once enabled, the first link creates the custom field, once per project, and Tollgate reuses it thereafter.
Related
Section titled “Related”- Add and baseline work packages.
- Why the link stays minimal: Above the line.
